ABLE Pathway Spring Campaign

Why the ABLE Pathway Matters

Welcome Home Angel created the ABLE Pathway to meet a growing need: helping people of all ages live more safely, comfortably, and independently at home. Through three tracks: AdaptAble for children, AccessAble for adolescents and adults, and CapAble for older adults and seniors. The ABLE Pathway is designed to provide customized home modifications that reduce barriers and make daily life easier for individuals and families across the lifespan.

Founded in Wilmington in 2007, Welcome Home Angel has spent nearly two decades transforming homes for children with significant health challenges. As needs in our community have grown, so has our vision. In 2024, WHA announced plans for the ABLE Pathway as a lifespan-focused model that will expand services beyond children to include adolescents, adults, and older adults navigating disability, illness, injury, and aging in place. With an anticipated launch beginning in July 2026, this next chapter will build on WHA’s strong foundation to create supportive home environments that promote independence, comfort, safety, and dignity for individuals of all ages.

This work matters because home should be a place of comfort, not a source of stress. Yet many children, adults, and older adults live in homes that were never designed to support their mobility, health, or daily routines. Without the right modifications, simple tasks like bathing, moving from room to room, or caring for a loved one can become overwhelming. The ABLE Pathway is built to change that by creating spaces that work with families, not against them.

The impact is both immediate and lasting. In 2025 alone, Welcome Home Angel redesigned 33 spaces, served 12 Angels and 15 siblings, and mobilized 1,270 volunteer hours and $40,183 in volunteer time savings to help families access safer, more supportive home environments. As the ABLE Pathway grows, the planned CapAble track will build on the evidence-based CAPABLE model developed by Johns Hopkins, which has shown improvements in function, confidence, and quality of life through home-based, person-directed support and targeted home modifications.

Your support makes this possible. Every gift helps Welcome Home Angel serve children and families today while building the ABLE Pathway for tomorrow. Together, we can create safer, more functional, and more uplifting spaces where people of all ages can thrive at home.

“Before the project, everyday routines were stressful and exhausting. Now our home supports our child in ways it never could before. It has made such a difference in our family’s safety, comfort, and quality of life.”
